History
Benson Funeral Home was established in June of 1962 by Raymond A. and Jeanette K. Benson. Our original location was in the East Side Business District, in the renovated former Calvary Baptist Church. This building housed a full-service funeral home for 20 years; in 1982 it was sold to the Salvation Army.
In 1981 the current facility was built on 25th Avenue South. The new location features two chapels, single-level handicapped-accessibility, and generous parking. Benson was one of the first funeral homes in the state to offer on-site crematory facilities.
In 1989 Mark J. Benson succeeded his father as President of Benson Funeral Home and, in 1990, he purchased the Funeral Home and its sister company, the Central Minnesota Cremation Service, which serves Benson Funeral Home and other funeral homes throughout the state. Mark, along with his wife Angie, continued Benson Funeral Home’s family owned and operated tradition into its fifth decade.
In 2001, the facility was completely remodeled. The building was expanded and new, more convenient entrances and additional parking were added. With an eye to the future, we continue to make plans to ensure that those who visit will find our facility to be welcoming and comfortable. Just as important, we continue to commit to staffing the funeral home with a highly-qualified, caring staff dedicated to serving families, friends and loved ones of those who have died.
A Seamless Transition, Continued Commitment
In September 2023, Benson Funeral Home merged with Daniel Funeral Home—another respected, family-owned funeral service provider based in St. Cloud. This partnership brings together two trusted names with a shared commitment to serving the community.
Today, you’ll find funeral directors and staff from both working side by side at each location and throughout the St. Cloud area. The Daniel family has worked closely with Mark Benson to ensure a smooth transition, uniting the strengths of both businesses under one mission: to continue providing compassionate, personalized care to the families we serve.
