Donald Carl Oswald was born on April 17, 1930 to Christian and Agnes (Pieri) Oswald in Minneapolis, MN. He was baptized at the family home in Mpls on May 11, 1930 and confirmed on April 2, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buffalo, MN. Don served in the US Navy from 1948-1952 aboard the USS Stickell as part of the Korean War effort. After his discharge from the Navy Don met and fell in love with Nancy Ahrens. The couple was united in marriage on February 24, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buffalo, MN. After returning from the Navy Don began working as a welder, eventually for Indianhead Trucking for over 35 years before retiring.
Don was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Sauk Rapids, MN. In addition to serving numerous positions within the church, Don shared his faith by using his talent as a welder to sculpt many religious pieces, which he donated to the churches he attended. Don enjoyed the outdoors especially when fishing.
Survivors include his children, David (Barbara) Oswald of Cottage Grove, WI and Dawn (Jack) Berner of Brooklyn Park, MN; four grandchildren, Heather, Jason, Alyssa and Brooke; and two great grandchildren.
