    PHYLLIS J. SHERN, 84
    St. Cloud, MN
    September 4, 1927 - January 30, 2012

Phyllis J. Shern, age 84, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Lakewood Care Center, Staples, MN.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 3, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in Viking Cemetery, Viking, MN.
Phyllis was born September 4, 1927 in Viking, MN to Oscar H. and Anna E. (Simonson) Shern. She lived in Viking on the family farm with her nine siblings who all helped with “whatever needed to be done”. Phyllis enjoyed working with her family and that hard work and being with family remained very important to her throughout her life. Because of these strong family values, her passion in life was caregiving. She was caregiver for her sister, Olivia for many years and later for her sisters Bernice in Petaluma, CA and then Minerva. Her care went “above and beyond” in all ways! She could appear at the hospital, nursing home, church, or home any time of day just to say hello and see how everyone was doing.
She graduated from Newfolden High School. Phyllis lived part of her life in St. Cloud and for a time lived in Petaluma, CA. She worked mostly in banks, but also had a job at Nash Finch in St. Cloud. Phyllis enjoyed going to Whitney Center each day, reading the paper to keep up with current events, going for sight seeing rides, and, of course, visiting with family. Phyllis was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sister, Ilet (Leo) Pelzer of St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Joyce Shern of Rice, MN; and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Harry, Arthur and Gordon Shern; and five sisters, Bernice Stinar, Merine Shern, Olivia Kirchhoff, Minerva Butt, and Purnell Tunheim.
