     Donald L. Millard, age 88, St. Cloud, MN died Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     Don was born February 19, 1923 in Canby, MN to Phillip H. & Christina (Bresson) Millard. He graduated from Canby High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College for one year before enlisting in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 where he trained as a flight engineer and pilot. Don flew B-29’s in the South Pacific. After the Army he served in the US Air Force Reserves until 1975. Don married Esther Lorraine Mikkelson on August 14, 1943 in Muskogee, OK. They lived in several different places before settling down in Sauk Rapids, MN and raising a family. Don was employed at various businesses as an office manager/accountant.
     Don enjoyed hunting, fishing camping, canoeing. The family remembers several camp outs and many in the BWCA. He also enjoyed baking, and one of his favorites was his famous strawberry/rhubarb pies.
     Survivors included his wife, Esther Millard of Sartell, MN; children, Richard (Judy) Millard of St. Louis Park, MN; Larry Millard of West Fargo, ND; Doug (Colleen) Millard of Sartell, MN; Gail (Jim) Leikvoll of Little Falls, MN; David (Nancy) Millard of Lakeland, MN; Roger (Jerri) Millard of Monticello, MN; Mary (Richard) Vouk of Albany, MN; Debra (Tom) Robison of St. Paul, MN; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Betts of Fairmont, MN; Carol Tholkes of Estherville, IA.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Linda Friendshuh and her husband Al; daughter-in-law, Rita Millard; brother, Archie Millard; sister, Doris Ufkin; three grandchildren, Kimberly and Scott Vouk, and Tina Millard.
     Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
