February 27, 1938 - August 11, 2011
Patricia Louise Vargason, age 73, St. Cloud, MN, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, August 11, 2011, surrounded by family. She fought a courageous battle against stage 4 lung cancer for 4 years.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Parish prayers will be at 5:00 PM and Women of Moose prayers at 6:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Patricia was born February 27, 1938 in St. Cloud, MN to Ernest and Laurette (Rau) Johnson. She was a 1956 Cathedral High School graduate and a graduate of Rasmussen College. Patricia married John D. Baker on September 13, 1958 and they later divorced. She married Richard Doroff on June 25, 1983. He died December 26, 1991. On April 9, 1998 Patricia married Gary Vargason.
Patricia experienced life with vibrancy and elegance, and was gracious with everyone she encountered. She enjoyed the time she spent traveling with her husband, including nine winters in Arizona, as well as vacations in Florida, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Patricia also enjoyed spending her summers at the lake with her many friends, and the time she spent with her husband, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Vargason of St. Cloud, MN; children, John D. “J.D.” (Sharon ) Baker of Maplewood, MN; Christopher J. (friend Danette) Baker of Clearwater, MN; and Amy L. (Steve) Pfarr of Prior Lake, MN; sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Cameron of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Warren E. (Diane) Johnson of Burnsville, MN; and Gary (Catherine) Johnson of Sartell, MN; step children; Eve (John) Chisholm of Sartell, MN; Tara (friend Charlie) Grams of Sartell, MN; Hallie (Randy) Dufner of Melrose, MN; Jordan (Debbie) Vargason of Duluth, MN; John (Serena) Vargason of Rineville, KY; and 17 grandchildren, including Tom, Mariah and Michael, whom she took great joy in and loved. Patricia is also survived by her dog, Sam, whose companionship during the last months of her life gave her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John D. Baker, and husband, Richard L. Doroff.
Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
