Longtime St. Cloud resident Norman L. Huser passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell. He was 87.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in St. Cloud. A military honors service will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN the following morning at 11:45 AM. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Norman was born to Clara (Schmidt) Huser and George Huser in Hutchinson, Minn. on July 5, 1923. He graduated from Glencoe High School and served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Shangri-la. He was a turret gunner on an Avenger torpedo bomber .
After the war, he studied drafting at the Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis and married Beatrice Benjamin Huser, his wife of 60 years. He managed lumber yards for Anderson Lumber in Preston, Minn., and in Perry, Marion and Everly, Iowa and finally in St. Cloud in 1965. Later he worked at the St. Cloud Post Office for more than 20 years before he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Men.
Norman was an avid fisherman and taught his children and grandchildren to fish as soon as possible.
Norman is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Greenberg her husband, Terry, and granddaughters Lucy and Annika of Lubbock, Texas and Rebecca of San Francisco; son, Bob, and his companion, Joyce Wallace of Monticello; son, Ron, his wife, Allison Ilstrup, and grandchildren, Adam, Abigail, Anders and Anika of Maple Grove. He is also survived by his sister, LaJune Dibbs, and her husband, Earl, of St. Cloud; and his sister, Mavis Kruschke, and her husband, Orland, of Lester Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Beatrice.
