Virgil J. Winter, age 83, St. Cloud, MN died Saturday, March 5, 2011 peacefully in his sleep at home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. The Rev. Tom Knoblach and Rev. Greg Lieser will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2011 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Virgil was born March 11, 1927 in Lake Henry, MN to Gilbert and Dorothy (Lieser) Winter. At the age of 7 his family moved to a farm in St. Augusta, MN. Virgil married Dolores Mohs on June 5, 1952 at St. Wendelin’s Catholic Church, Luxemburg, MN. He worked for Fruth Road Construction, Franklin Manufacturing and then Ickler Bearing and Machine. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, “Do Dads” at St. Anthony’s and the St. Cloud Hospital. Virgil was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #5548, and Moose Lodge.
Virgil enjoyed growing his big vegetable garden every year using its produce to have an annual bouja party each fall for family and friends. He also loved to travel whether is was small road trips around the area or his yearly visits to Florida to spend time with family.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Dolores of St. Cloud, MN; daughters and son, Vonnie (Ken) Dietman of Clearwater, MN; Cheryl (Jeff) Nelson of St. Cloud, MN; Cindy (Mert) Eckes of Sartell, MN; Jennifer (Rick) Karczewski of Tampa, FL; Tim Winter of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters and brother, Marion Koshiol of St. Cloud, MN; Janet (Gene) Fruth of St. Cloud, MN; Patty (Jim) Voigt of Clearwater, MN; Bob (Vernie) Winter of Luxemburg, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allen Winter and one sister, Mildred Albers.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Corey Nelson, Melissa Nelson, Cole Nelson, Hanna Nelson, Noah Hilsgen and Ammy Rasmussen.
