Dr. William A. Autrey, age 92, St. Cloud, MN, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 2 at the First Presbyterian Church, 373 Fourth Avenue South, St. Cloud, MN (parking in back and on the street). The Rev. Dr. Ed Morgan will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Bill was born August 7, 1918, in Doniphan, MO to William T. and Artie (Brooks) Autrey. He attended the University of Minnesota Medical School in the early 1940s, but enlisted in the U.S. Army in late 1942 before finishing. He served with the medical corps at bases in the U.S. and the Pacific Theater in the Philippines and New Guinea. Following his honorable discharge he reapplied and was again admitted to the U of M Medical School. He was awarded his Medical Doctor degree in 1950 and completed his residency at St. Luke's hospital in Duluth. He and his family moved to St. Cloud where he practiced until his retirement in 1988. While in St. Cloud he also served as Chief of Staff at St. Cloud Hospital and was the school physician at St. Cloud State University.
Survivors include sons and daughters; Jim (Linda) Autrey of Bemidji, MN; Michael (Monina) Autrey of Lake Worth, FL; David (Carol) Autrey of Appleton, WI; Bill Autrey of Red Wing, MN; Joan (Frank Parisi) Autrey of Plymouth, MN; Deborah Autrey of Hopkins, MN; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steve, sister, Marjorie Koch and his former wife, Marcia.
