     Adrian Frederick Opitz, age 94, Waite Park, MN, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Hospice Unit, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Al Stangl will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN at a later date.
     Adrian was born December 23, 1915 in St. Cloud, MN to Herman and Clara (Foehrenbacher) Opitz. He married Dorothy E. Barthelemy on February 10, 1942 in Luxemburg, MN. Adrian served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the Asian Theatre on Iwo Jima. Adrian was a lifelong musician starting as a drummer in J. Oliver Riggs Boys Band and last playing for the River Rats. He was a founding member of the Granite City Archery Club. Adrian loved to hunt and fish and in later years took up wood carving. He retired from the St. Cloud National Guard Armory.
     Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Opitz of Waite Park, MN; sons and daughters, Adrian L. (LouAnne) Opitz of Austin, TX; Jeff (Jane) Opitz of St. Cloud, MN; Pam Weller of St. Cloud, MN; Diane Opitz of St. Cloud, MN; and Judy (Dion) Netter of Westminster, CO; eleven grandchildren, Tawney, Chris, Ben, Holly, Dania, Kyle, Jenae, Dustin, Aja, Sonya and Shayna; eight great grandchildren, Julian, Kassidy, Jordan, McKenzie, Connor, Xzavier, Ayden and Enza.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rosemary and Carol, and four brothers, John, Ben, Frank and Fred.
     In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Treatment & Research Center, St. Paul, MN, Poor Clares Monastery or the St. Cloud VA Adult Day Health Care.
