Russ Arndts, St. Cloud, MN, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Community Church, 1200 Roosevelt Rd., St. Cloud. Visitation will be Monday, July 26, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Calvary Community Church and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Russ was born on February 11, 1935 to Melvin and Geneva (Thompson) Arndts in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1953 and from Bemidji State College in 1957. Russell earned a master's degree in chemistry from North Dakota State University in 1959 and a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Louisiana State University in 1968.
On June 8, 1957, Russ married Betty J. Hurlbert in Bemidji, MN. He worked as a professor of chemistry at St. Cloud State University for 35 years, before retiring in 1999.
His retirement years were rich and fulfilling as he pursued a variety of passions.

- Promoting conservative causes
- Mentoring students of all ages, especially those interested in theological and
philosophical issues
- Mentoring his grandchildren
Russ was an active member of Calvary Community Church and a committed believer who lived out his faith in Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of St. Cloud; daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren: Sharon (Richard) Hobbs and children Jordan and Kenna of St. Cloud; Linda Brix and children, Rachel and Paul of St. Cloud, and David (Anna) of Milaca; Beth (Steve) Prater and children Andrew, Joel, Isaac, and Renae of Andover. He is also survived by a sister, Louvain Arndts of St. Louis Park, MN.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Randy Brix.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
