Richard “ Dick” J. Schmid, age 80, St. Cloud, MN, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home, after a battle with prostrate and bone cancer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Tom Knoblach will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Dick was born November 20, 1929 in St. Cloud, MN to Andrew T. and Marguerite (Freudenberg) Schmid. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1948. Dick attended St. Cloud State University for two years and then joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged from the Army, Dick returned to St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1955. On June 13, 1957, Dick was united in marriage to Donna M. Stang at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. Dick and his family owned and operated H & S Shoes. He retired, after 30 years, in 1984. He was a member of the Waite Park American Legion Post #428, Eagles Aerie #622 and the St. Cloud Antique Auto Club - “Pantowners”.
Survivors include his children, Rick (Sherryl) Schmid of St. Cloud, MN; Beth (Bryan “Doc”) Carlson of St. Cloud, MN; Kristi (Michael) Kenney of Waite Park, MN; sister, Jane (Bob) Ruether of St. Cloud, MN; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna, on January 24, 1984, two brothers, Jim and Phil Schmid, and one infant granddaughter, Stephanie Kenney. |
