Angeline “Angie” Maria Riley-Olberding, age 80, Pierre, SD, formerly of St. Cloud, MN, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Golden Living Center, Pierre, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Fr. Aaron Kuhn will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, March 19, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Christian Women will pray at 4:30 PM and Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 PM at the funeral home on Friday. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Angie was born November 27, 1929 in Melrose, MN to Joseph and Julitta (Rosen) Riley. She grew up in Melrose and graduated top of her high school class. Angie married Arthur “Art” Olberding on June 22, 1948. Angie and Art lived a short time in Melrose and Rice before settling in St. Cloud, MN. To this union six children were born: Sharon, Patrick, Jean, Jeffrey, Laura and Sara.
Angie was an active member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Christian Women’s Group and her 500 Card Club. She loved to dance and work in her flower garden. Angie was employed by St. Cloud State University for over 20 years, retiring in 1999.
In September 2005 Angie was diagnosed with vascular dementia. In August 2006 Angie moved to Pierre, SD to be closer to her daughter. She lived at Dakota Heritage House, Pierre, SD from August 2006 to June 2008 and moved to Golden Living Center-Alzheimer Care Unit in July 2008. Angie was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pierre, SD. Even though dementia stole her memories and the ability to care for herself, she never lost her devotion to her faith and ability to pray. She always had a smile on her face.
Thankful for sharing and surviving in her life are her children; Patrick Olberding of St. Cloud, MN; Jean Lonien of Marshall, MN; Jeffrey Olberding of Pierre, SD; Sara (Todd) Kelly of Pierre, SD; seven grandchildren; Kim (Lee) Louwagie of Marshall, MN; Kurt (Chrissy) Lonien of RAF Digby, England; Kevin (Christy Schoephoester) Lonien of Marshall, MN; Stephanie “Rae” Theisen of State College, PA; Caitlin Theisen of Buffalo, MN; Riley Ann Kelly of Pierre, SD; and Austin Kelly of Pierre, SD; six great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Val (Joan) Riley of Eden Valley, MN; Virg (Doris) Riley of Richmond, MN; Gladys Metzger of New Munich, MN; and Geraldine (Ervin) Elfering of Sauk Centre, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur on March 12, 1988; daughters, Sharon Olberding and Laura Theisen-Reilly; son-in-law, Charles Lonien; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Frank Olberding; brothers-in-law, Leonard Olberding and Edmund Olberding; and sisters-in-law; Lillian Essler and Hildegard Olberding.
Pallbearers will be Keith, Kyle and Kelly Elfering, Thomas Metzger and Thomas Kulzer.
