     Verna June Shoquist, age 83, St. Cloud, MN died Friday, January 22, 2010 at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be joining her husband in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     June Shoquist was born April 22, 1926 in Duluth, MN to Martin and Dorothy (Long) Satterness. June began her teaching career in Superior, WI then in Duluth, MN. She moved to Pittsburg, CA where she married Oscar “Ossie” L. Shoquist on December 29, 1955 at the First Presbyterian Church. They lived in Pittsburg, CA for 20 years where she taught in the elementery schools and was active in many civic organizations. When they returned to Minnesota she taught in the Education Department at St. Cloud State University and then in the Sauk Rapids/Rice School District until she retired. June continued as a Substitute teacher until age 82. June was a member of Eastside VFW Auxiliary Post 4847, Daughters of American Revolution, Sons of Norway, Sweet Adelines and First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud.
     Survivors include her son, Bill (Alanna) Shoquist of St. Cloud, MN; brother, William (Marilyn) Satterness of Sartell, MN; sister, Vonna (Elmer) Malinen of St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Oscar.
     Memorials are preferred.
