     Charles Martin Cater, age 103, St. Cloud, MN, died Friday, January 8, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Care Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Charles was born May 13, 1906 in Haven Township, Sherburne County, MN to Edward M. and Nellie R. Cater. He married Gertrude Evert on June 6, 1929 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Charlie, a graduate of Clear Lake High School and St. Cloud Business College, worked as a budget accountant at St. Cloud Correctional Facility for more than 38 years. He was a charter member of the Reformatory Employees Credit Union (now Starcor) and served as secretary and bookkeeper for many years. Charlie served in the Minnesota State Guard during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member and marksmanship instructor of the Tri-County Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Charlie and his wife wintered in St. Petersburg, Florida for many years.
     Survivors include his sons, Dwight (Gen) Cater of Topeka, KS; Mike (Pat) Cater of Escondido, CA; and Dave (Mary) Cater of Madeira Beach, FL; six grandchildren, a step grandson, and ten great grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gertrude on June 16, 1996, and three brothers, Lyle, Wayne and Marion Cater.
     Memorials are preferred to St. Benedict’s Senior Center or American Cancer Society.
