Theresa Eva (Lanz) Kacures, age 76, St. Joseph, MN died Friday, December 11, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral Lower Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Theresa was born on August 9, 1933 in Flasher, ND to Hironymus and Elizabeth (Hummel) Lanz. She graduated from St. Leo’s Catholic Girls High School in Tacoma, WA and attended Tacoma Vocational School for Business. Theresa married James J. Kacures on March 3, 1956 at St. John’s of the Woods, Tacoma, WA. The couple raised 9 children while establishing Floral Arts in St. Joseph, MN, where Theresa worked as the bookkeeper. She was very proud to have chosen the name of the business. Theresa loved the simple things in life, being home, spending time with family, and playing “crazy 8” card game with her husband. She spent many hot summer days over her stove canning fruits and jams. She was known for her famous Chocolate cake. Plentiful were her stories of her life on the North Dakota plains and of her German/Russian heritage. She had a strong faith in God and especially enjoyed watching daily Mass on EWTN.
Theresa is survived by her husband, James of St. Joseph, MN and 9 children, Elaine (Rick) Wruck of Avon, MN; Dorothy Marshall of LaPorte, MN; Rita (Roger) Doroff of Waite Park, MN; Mary Kacures of Avon, MN; Kathy (John) Knox of Buyck, MN; Bernadette Kacures of Avon, MN; Nicholas (Jacqueline) Kacures of Tofte, MN; Gregory Kacures of St. Joseph, MN; Clara (Ed) Sulpice of Igo, CA; 12 grandchildren, Lindsey, Emily, Timothy, Sarah, Paul, Matthew, Jacob, May, Luke, Peter, David and Zoe; one sister, LeDora Mikelich of Carnmichael, CA; and goddaughter, Christine of Oak Harbor, WA and her cat, Sam.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 sisters, Mary, Hedvigh, Beneda, Helen, Ann Lou, and Kathleen; 5 brothers, Gabriel, Paul, Thomas, Oliver, and Luke and son-in-law, Timothy Marshall. |
