     Robert M. Muir, age 81, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids, MN.
     Funeral services will be Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. John Praetorius will officiate. Visitation will be (TODAY) Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
     Robert was born March 20, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Peter Alexander and Clara (Crispin) Muir. He married Kathleen Lucas on June 22, 1952 in Bedford, IA. Robert served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Benner. He was a professor at Iowa State University for 20 years, employed by Honeywell in Plymouth, MN for 10 years and MIT Research Group in Massachusetts from 1991 until his retirement in December of 1995.
     Robert was a member of BETA Fraternity at Iowa State and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was one of the first high school athletes in the country to break the two minute barrier in the half mile run. Robert was also active and competitive in golf, racquetball and cross country skiing. He was a very gifted individual who always put family first.
     Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Muir of St. Cloud, MN; son, Jon (Cathy) Muir of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Mary Kay (Chip) Anderson of Omaha, NE; and five grandchildren, Ben, Jonathan and Michael Anderson and Grayson and Thomas Muir.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Don Muir.
