    Bernice Beck
    November 27, 1915 – September 12, 2009

Born to Jarke Bruno (J. B.) Dornbusch and Henerika (Raveling) Dornbusch on November 27, 1915 in Paullina, Iowa, Bernice was soon to be reborn into the family of God through the waters of baptism by the powerful Word at Zion Lutheran Church of the same city. Raised in a committed Lutheran family, she strengthened her baptismal vows through confirmation instructions under The Rev. J. Hartmeister and was confirmed in her baptismal faith on June 1, 1930. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 6:33-- “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

The youngest of four children, she was blessed with two brothers and one sister— brothers Jarke and John, and sister Trenka, all of whom preceded her in death. Through her elementary and high school years in Paullina, she developed an interest in speech and the dramatic arts, while learning to play the piano. Upon graduating from high school she enrolled in Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana, and attended this Lutheran school for two years.

(Rev.) Clarence Pauling, a Concordia Seminary student in St. Louis, introduced Bernice to another seminarian—Arthur Ernest Beck, and they were married in the summer after Art’s graduation on August 14, 1936, in Zion Lutheran of Paullina, Iowa. Called to help his father Paul in his ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran of Foley, Minnesota, Bernice became a Minnesotan for the next 67 years. Serving with her husband at four different locations within the state, she took organ lessons and often played for worship services and was a faithful participant in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League activities and at one time served as District Vice President.

Bernice and Art were blessed with four sons: Ronald of Detroit, Michigan; Gordon of St. Louis, Missouri, David of San Francisco, California, and Steven of Tucson, Arizona. Fulfilling the promise of Psalm 128, she has been blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Grandchildren--- Ronda, Daniel, and Paul Beck by Ronald and Wanda; Andrew, Gretchen, and Sarah Beck by Gordon and Sally; Joshua and Rachel Beck by David and Debra; and David Wayne Beck by Steven and Christine: Great Grandchildren, Aaron and Alayna Brandt, Alyssa and Noah Beck, and Talia Beck; Elizabeth and Aaron Beck; and David Wayne Jr. Beck. She is preceded in death by her grandson Paul.

Ten years after Arthur was taken home to be with his Lord on August 18, 1988, Bernice married Walter Beltz of St. Cloud at Redeemer Lutheran of St. Cloud. They were blessed with two years of marriage until Wally was taken to be with his Lord. We the family of Bernice, ask you now to celebrate with us the victory Bernice has through the death and resurrection of Christ, our Lord.

Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 25th, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2719 3rd Street North, St. Cloud. A reception will follow the service. Memorials accepted on behalf of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran School. Cards may be addressed to: Rev. Gordon Beck, 7541 Teasdale Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63130.
