     Dennis H. Tufte, age 88, St. Cloud, MN, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, peacefully at home surrounded by family.
     Funeral services will be Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Peace United Church of Christ, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Hal Spann will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, August 21, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
     Denny was born to Carl and Anna (Anderson) Tufte, along with his twin sister, in Northwood, ND on April 12, 1921. After graduating from Carleton College in 1943 he served in the United States Navy during World War II, until 1946. Denny married Mildred Cobb on April 3, 1948 in Faribault, MN. Throughout his working years he held various positions within the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Denny’s work moved his family several times both in Minnesota and Iowa, before coming to St. Cloud in 1969 as a District Manager. He was inducted into the Grand Forks Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Denny was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. He was also an active member of his community as a member of the St. Cloud Downtown Kiwanis for 35 years, receiving the Legion of Honor Award in 2007 and the Volunteer of the Year Award for Kids Against Hunger in 2008. Denny was also a member of the St. Cloud Country Club for 38 years. He loved to golf, enjoyed gardening and working in his yard and volunteering.
     Survivors include his wife, Milly, of St. Cloud, MN; son, Jon Tufte (John Gburzynski) of Clear Lake, MN; daughter-in-law, Connie Tufte of Grants Pass, OR; and three grandchildren, Jessica Tufte (John McMurray) of Pebble Beach, CA; Erin (Jeremiah) Hausauer of Sauk Rapids, MN; and Brian Tufte (Glenn Miller) of Los Angeles, CA.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister, Delphine, and son, Gary.
     Memorials are preferred to Kids Against Hunger, St. Cloud Hospital Hospice Program or Peace United Church of Christ.
