     James F. Stanek, age 83, St. Cloud, MN died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his home.
     Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Wayne Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     Jim was born March 14, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Evelyn (Lawson) Stanek. He served in the US Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Jim played baseball for St. Cloud State and graduated in 1951. Jim married Lorraine Edling on August 13, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN. He was a teacher, coach and athletic director at Coronado High School, Coronado, CA. They moved to St. Cloud in 1967 when Jim became a Professor at St. Cloud State University teaching Physical Education, Kinesiology and Sports Medicine for 24 years retiring in 1991. While at SCSU he served as Head Baseball Coach and coached the 3rd place finish in the 1969 NAIA National Baseball Tourament. Jim also was an Assistant Football Coach at SCSU. He was inducted into the SCSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
     Jim was a member of SCSU Husky Dug Out Club, Kiwanis Club, R.E.A.M., American Legion Post 76, Eastside VFW Post 4847, and Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN.
     Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Stanek of St. Cloud, MN; son and daughter, Kevin (Leah) Stanek of Eagan, MN; Cinda (Fred Hiltner) Stanek of Juneau, AK; and granddaughter, Cori Stanek of Eagan, MN.
     He was preceded in death by his parents.
     Pallbearers will be Denny Lorsung, Jerry Henkemeyer, Noel Olson, Denny Tufte, Stan Lewis, Jim Johnson, John Kasper and Mike Simpson.
     Memorials are preferred to the Husky Dug Out Club at SCSU Athletic Department; Kids Against Hunger of Central Minnesota or St. Cloud Hospital Hospice Program.
     The family would like to thank Dr. Gerard Bobeldyk for his care, kindness and compassion in caring for Jim.
