Hilda, warm and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, was born September 26, 1914 in Ottertail, MN to Henry and Sophie (Bormann) Bartels. She was baptized on October 11, 1914 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Ottertail. Hilda attended public school in Ottertail for two years, then continued at St. John’s Lutheran School through the eighth grade. She attended high school at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN and graduated from there in June of 1932. On June 17, 1944, Hilda was united in marriage to Edwin Wiebe. They farmed near Dent until ill health forced him to leave the farm. They moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1965. Edwin died in 1968. On January 16, 1971, Hilda married John “Jack” Hanebuth. John died in 1981. Hilda was employed at Zion Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, as office manager for 14 years and then on a part time basis for five years. She participated in church activities as well as volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital and Nursing Center with the Pastoral Care Group. Hilda moved to Sauk Rapids, MN in 2002 and became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, MN.
Hilda had a very strong faith and was dedicated to the churches to which she belonged. She knew where she was going when she passed on to the next life and viewed death as a very spiritual experience.
