     Donald Irvin Gilbertson, age 82, of Monticello and long time resident of Milaca, Staples and St. Cloud, passed away on June 3.
     A memorial service will be held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
     Don was a distinguished World War II veteran receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Upon returning from the service, he married Brunelle Johnson and together they raised four children. Don was a well known businessman who managed Batcher’s Department Store in Staples for thirty years. He served his community through various leadership roles including Chamber of Commerce, School Board, PTA, Church Council, and as a lifetime member of VFW Post #1910 of Staples. Don and Burnie did extensive traveling throughout all fifty states, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. They retired and relocated to St. Cloud in 1984, then Monticello in 2001.
     Survivors include his wife, Brunelle of Monticello; son, Jay (Jeanne Samuelson) of Minnetonka; daughters, Janice of Lino Lakes and Joan of Alexandria, along with other relatives and good friends.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Emma Gilbertson, daughter, Judith Ann Gilbertson, two sisters, Helen Disch and Marion Holt, and three brothers, Paul, Maurice and Russell Gilbertson.
     In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family.
