     Joseph D. Halpern, age 90, formerly of Mankato, MN, died Friday, March 27, 2009 at the St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud, MN.
     Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St’s Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, Mankato, MN, Reverend Frank Wampach will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to Noon at the church on Wednesday. Private family burial will be in St Anastasia Cemetery, Hutchinson, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Joseph David Halpern was born September 4, 1918 in New York City, NY to Morris and Rose Halpern. He grew up in Hutchinson, MN and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1936. He attended the University of Minnesota, where he played Basketball and Football. Joseph was united in marriage to Evelyn Fallon on May 13, 1939, a union that lasted 57 years. In 1950 they moved to Mankato where Joseph worked in the millwork business for over 40 years, most of that time spent as a partner in Neubert Millwork.
     Joe loved wintering in Arizona, golfing, bridge and his poker buddies. He also loved his friends at Terrace View and Willowbrook.
     Joseph is survived by his son Jim, of San Francisco, CA, daughter Gwen and husband Patrick Wampach of St. Cloud, MN, six grandchild1ren, and 13 great grandchildren, sister, Florence and husband Theodore Ain of Philadelphia, PA, and special friend Beverly Born of Mankato. He is affectionately known as PaPa Joe by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
     He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evelyn, February 22, 1996, and brother, Arnold.
     The family would like to thank all the wonderful people that cared for Joe at St Benedict’s Senior Community in St. Cloud. He loved you all!
