     William “Bill” Duane Chirhart, age 85, Waite Park, MN, formerly of St. Cloud, MN, died peacefully Thursday, September 11, 2008, with his family at his side, at Sterling Park Health Care Center, Waite Park, MN.
     Funeral services will be Monday, September 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Parish prayers will be at 6:-00 PM and VFW Post #428 prayers will be at 6:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Full military honors will be provided by the St. Cloud VFW Post #428.
     William was born October 15, 1922 in Holdingford, MN to Louis G. and Bertha Ann (Berry) Chirhart. He married Alice Pierskalla on November 19, 1949 in St. Cloud, MN. Bill served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1952 during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He also served in the Army National Guard of Minnesota from 1939 to 1963. Bill was employed as a police officer by the City of St. Cloud from January 27, 1955 until his retirement on July 6, 1982. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, life member of Minnesota Police and Peace Officers, charter member of St. Cloud Police Retirement Association, life member of St. Cloud VFW Post #428; member of St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, and National Association of Retired People. Bill was active in Winnebago Itasca Travelers Group and Northwoods Winnetaska. He also volunteered as a greeter for the St. Cloud Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
     Survivors include his wife, Alice M. Chirhart of Waite Park, MN; sons and daughter, Thomas L. (Jane) Chirhart of Stafford, VA; Charles H. (Doreen) Chirhart of St. Cloud, MN; Todd L. (Becky) Chirhart of Oshkosh, WI; Shelley A. Chirhart of Apple Valley, MN; and six grandchildren, Paula and John Chirhart, Nicholas and Amanda Chirhart, and Sossina and Daria Chirhart.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Virgil, Gerald and Vernon Chirhart, one sister, Eunice Frarck, and one grandson, Christopher.
     Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimers Association.
