Robert “Bob” L. Hovey, age 67, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, September 8, 2008 at St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud, MN after a brief battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 3:00 to 5:30 PM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN, followed by a Memorial Prayer Service at 5:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, IA, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Bob was born on July 14, 1941 in Long Grove, Iowa to Max and Frances (Watters) Hovey. He graduated from St. Joseph High School, DeWitt, IA in 1960, and served in the Iowa National Guard. Bob married Karen Goodall on September 14, 1963 in Petersville, IA. Bob was employed in several fields of work, but he most enjoyed his work as a welder at J. I. Case, as a sales representative for Olivetti Underwood, Lever Brothers, and BASF Wyandotte and more recently for the City of Muscatine, IA/Clark House and St. Cloud HRA/Grace McDowall. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Bob was an avid fisherman and had recently fulfilled his dream of retiring to Park Rapids, MN, which was his favorite place to fish since he was a child. He also enjoyed hunting, riding ATV’s, camping, anything outdoors and visiting his grandchildren.
Survivors include children, Chris Hovey of St. Cloud, MN; Sue (Paul) Robinson of St. Cloud, MN; Trish Hovey of Avon, MN; and Jennifer (Doug) Reiter of St. Augusta, MN; mother, Frances Hovey of DeWitt, IA; brothers and sisters, Jean Sutton of Maquoketa, IA; Kay (Ron) Tooker of Eagle Point, OR; Max (Bonnie) Hovey, Jr. of DeWitt, IA; Beverly (Charlie) Trimble of Superior, AZ; and Phil (Judy) Hovey of Bellevue, IA; sister-in-law, Judy Hovey of Eldridge, IA; eleven grandchildren, Melissa Dombrovski, Justin Habiger, Elizabeth Robinson, Jessica Hovey, Zak Hovey-Cook, Jordan Owen, Jacob, Lexie, Halia, Kadence and Tierney Reiter; and two great grandsons, Devon and Jaden Dombrovski.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max, brother, Don Hovey, and brother-in-law, Jim Sutton.
