     Richard “Dick” D. Vangerud, age 81, Waite Park, MN died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Dee Pederson will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. There will be a Remembrance service at 7:00 PM Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the columbarium at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Dick was born October 18, 1926 in Fargo, ND to Carl and Ella (Simmons) Vangerud. Dick married Elaine L. Tenney on August 2, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northfield, MN.
     Dick served as a Chaplain in the US Army and US Army Reserves. He served as Pastor in Bottineau, ND; St. Cloud, MN; Madison, SD and Staples, MN. Dick was a resident in Religion and Psychiatry Menninger Foundation; Faculty at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN; held various positions with American Lutheran Church and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN.
     Dick enjoyed reading, gardening work, camping, volunteering and music.
     Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Waite Park, MN; sons and daughter, James (Heather) Vangerud of Chaska, MN; Robert (Nancy) Victorin-Vangerud of Minneapolis, MN; Mary Vangerud of St. Paul, MN; son-in-law, Paul Hadland of Fergus Falls, MN; four grandchildren, Carl Hadland, Christopher Hadland, Aaron Victorin-Vangerud, William Victorin-Vangerud; and brother, Paul (Doreen) Vangerud of Valley City, ND.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Karen Hadland, and sister, Dorothy Casey.
     In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to: Concordia College, Moorhead, MN; Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN; Bethlehem Lutheran Church Columbarium or Scholarship Funds.
