Dr. Charles W. Towne, age 83, Foley, MN, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Charles Towne was born October 7, 1924 in Foley, MN to Charles E. and Kathryn (Kamrowski) Towne. He married Rita Brenny on December 27, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Foley, MN. Charles received his BS and DVM degrees from the University of Minnesota in 1952. He was a veteran of World War II where he was a bombardier in the Army Air Corps. Charles practiced briefly with Dr. R. L. Erkel in St. Cloud before moving to Foley in 1953 when he started his large animal practice. He was the veterinarian for the Princeton Livestock Market, the Rush City Livestock Market, Geurkink Livestock, and the East Central Livestock in Mora for many years. He was a member of the Foley Knights of Columbus, American Legion, American Veterinary Association, and Minnesota State Veterinary Association. Charles' hobby was farming. This was a way to get his children to appreciate the soil and the ethical treatment of animals.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Towne of Foley, MN; sons and daughters, Charles E. (Mary) Towne, of Sartell, MN; James (Sue) Towne of Kingwood, Texas, Julie Zimmer of Foley, MN; Suzette (Tim) Lentner of St. Cloud, MN; Liz (Joe) Ranweiler of St. Cloud, MN; and Conrad (Arlys) Towne of Foley, MN; 16 wonderful grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dode Schleper and Betty Monteleone, and son-in-law, Donnie Zimmer. |
