     Jessie L Pershing, age 92, St. Cloud, MN died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the Merriett House.
     There will be no funeral services. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Jessie was born July 19, 1915 in Cincinnati, Iowa to George A. and Rosa L (Butterfield) King. Jessie began teaching in country schools at age 18. She taught at several country schools in Iowa. Jessie began her college studies at Iowa State University. She received her BS and Masters Degrees in Education from Macalester College. In 1939 Jessie married Forrest Laylin in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1962 she married K. C. Pershing in Santa Ana, California.
     She taught in the South St. Paul school system for 9 years. In 1961 Jessie moved to California where she taught in Santa Ana for 19 years , retiring in 1980. After retiring she taught English as a second language. Jessie received numerous awards during her teaching career. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Jessie was an avid reader, sports fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved to travel.
     Survivors include a son, Larry (Della) Laylin of St. Cloud, MN; two grandchildren, Andrea Tyler, and Cory (Stacy) Laylin, and five great grandchildren, Joshua and Amanda Tyler, and Luc Casy and Bode Laylin.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother, John King, and four sisters, Gladys Henderson, Beulah Simo, Mildred Allen and Georgia King.
