     Francis R. Skillingstad, age 78, Waite Park, MN died Monday, September 17, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family.
     Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home on Friday. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
     Francis Skillingstad was born June 5, 1929 in St. Cloud, MN to Marvin and Ruth (Hassler) Skillingstad. He married Lillian “Lil” LeClaire on November 28, 1950 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. Francis served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was employed by Northern States Power Company as a lineman and dispatcher from 1948 until his retirement in 1989. Francis was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church and St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622. Francis and Lil spent 15 winters in Mesa, AZ where he did a lot of golfing, working with stained glass and wood carving. Francis’s most enjoyment in life was watching his grandchildren growing up, going to their activities and playing cards with them on Sunday afternoons.
     Survivors include his wife Lillian “Lil” Skillingstad of Waite Park, MN; sons and daughters, Kenneth (Carol) Skillingstad of St. Cloud, MN; Grace Ann (Clint) Hegseth of Browerville, MN; Dale (Cassandra) Skillingstad of Sauk Rapids, MN; Joan (Mark) Theisen of St. Cloud, MN; Joyce Cash of Victoria, TX; Glen (Diane) Skillingstad of St. Cloud, MN; brothers, Ramon “Ray” Skillingstad of Waite Park, MN; Fr. Del Skillingstad of Spokane, WA; Robert (Leona) Skillingstad of Sauk Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Janet Skillingstad of Sauk Rapids, MN; and eighteen grandchildren, Nicole, Terri, Sarah, Maegen, Erin, Jesse, Anna Rose, Scott, Cody, Hope, Matthew, Luke, Daniel, Melissa, Jennifer, Andrea, Evan and Katie.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerome Skillingstad.
     Pallbearers will be grandsons, Scott, Cody, Matthew, Luke, Daniel and Evan.
     Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
