Charles “Ken” Kenneth Sutton, age 84, St. Cloud, MN, died Thursday, September 13, 2007 at his home.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be at a later date in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN.
Ken was born April 12, 1923 in St. Cloud, MN to Dr. Charles Stewart and Grace (Heslop) Sutton. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School. During World War II Ken served in the United State Air Force with the 398th Bomber Group based in England. In 1947 he graduated from St. Cloud State College. On June 5, 1948 Ken married Rubell Thayer at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Cloud. He attended the University of Minnesota and received his Masters Degree in soil science. Ken worked for the Department of Agriculture for 30 years retiring in 1979. In his retirement he worked for the University of Minnesota as a soil scientist. Ken authored a book , Stearns County Soil, which was published around 1978. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. More recently, Ken enjoyed golfing, bird watching and gardening. He was a member of St. Cloud VFW Post # 428 and St. Cloud American Legion Post # 76.
Survivors include his wife, Rubell Sutton of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Mona Sutton of Brooklyn Park, MN; and sister, Olive (Rodney) Homestad of Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Stewart and Douglas Sutton. |
