Erma Alameda, age 95 of Sauk Rapids formerly of San Leandro, CA died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Sauk Rapids, MN with her daughter and granddaughter at her side after a short battle with cancer.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral service and burial will be at the Holy Sepulchre Chapel and Cemetery, Hayward, CA. Erma will be buried next to her beloved husband Bill.
Erma was born Arminda Canelhas Victorino on June 27, 1911 in Portugal to Carmelina (Canelhas) & Candido Victorino. She married William Alameda on February 9, 1935 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Oakland, CA. Erma became a citizen of the US on April 18, 1941. Erma and Bill owned and operated the largest and most successful pet store in Northern CA. They sold the business in 1973 to travel. Erma and Bill enjoyed their life together in their 60 years. They had many fun vacations together and with their children. In their retirement years they traveled across the US in the motor home. Erma’s greatest pleasure was fishing with Bill in the San Francisco Bay area. They won many prizes for the largest striped bass caught. Erma’s proudest moment was when she caught a 5 foot sturgeon. They also enjoyed salmon fishing and enjoyed canning it together.
Erma’s sense of humor and wit and her “feisty” way will be missed by all.
Erma is survived by her children, Carolyn (Dick) Wold of Sauk Rapids, MN; William Alameda of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Patricia Alameda of South Lake Tahoe, CA; grandchildren, Vicki (Kris) Hoppe of Albany, MN; Bill (Andrea) Derr of Coon Rapids, MN; Jon Derr of Sauk Rapids, MN; Joey, Mandy, and Molly of CA; great grandchildren, Kira Derr and Micah Derr; sisters, Betty Britz of Walnut Creek, CA; and Lucy Marks of Freemont, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill on August 25, 1995 and 10 brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or Heartland Hospice.
A big thank you to the nurses and aides at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home for the loving care and friendship they gave Erma. Also to the Heartland Hospice, especially Sadie; Father Ron Weyrens for the last rites and Rev. Don Wilke for the prayer service. A thank you also to Country Manor for the rehabilitation Erma received there.
