     Ludmilla K. Sahlstrom, age 76, St. Cloud, MN and formerly of Crookston, MN, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
     Memorial services will be held Friday, April 16, 2004 at 7:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. A second memorial service will be held at a later date in Crookston, MN.
     Ludmilla Sahlstrom was born on August 10, 1927 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia to Russian parents, Sergius and Stanislava Kasanezky. She was employed by the occupying U.S. Forces in Salzburg, Austria where she met and married her husband of 56 years, Stanley D. Sahlstrom, on October 5, 1946. Ludmilla was a teacher, philosopher, artist, linguist, gardener and mother. She was a governor appointee to the Minnesota State Arts Board, honored by the University of Minnesota with the 2003 Torch and Shield Award and founded the Faculty Wives Club at the University of Minnesota Crookston. Ludmilla was a member of the Association of University Women, The Fine Arts Club, Matrons Club of Crookston, League of Women Voters and First Presbyterian Church of Crookston..
     Survivors include her husband, Stanley D. Sahlstrom of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Kristine (Jay) Wahlin of Indian Wells, California; sons, David (Jean) Sahlstrom of Wayzata, MN; Stephen (Chris) Sahlstrom of St. Cloud, MN and Timothy (Esther) Sahlstrom of Indio, California. She is also survived by precious grandchildren, Max, Kara Ludmilla, Jacey, Joe, Alyssa, Andy and Tyler. Also by her constant companions Sophie and Agnes.
     Ludmilla was preceded in death by her parents, Sergius and Stanislava Kasanezky, brothers, George and Sergio Kasanezky and beloved grandson, David Carl Sahlstrom.
     Compassionate and beautiful, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
     Memorials are preferred to Tri-County Humane Society, Anna Marie’s Shelter and the Mil Sahlstrom Scholarship Fund for Women at the University of Minnesota Crookston.
