     Alvera Dagmar Ostberg Knutson, died Friday, March 26, 2004 in St. Cloud, Minnesota where she had lived since 1956.
     Funeral services will be Monday, March 29, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Alvera was born on February 1, 1909 in Hannibal, Missouri. She was the daughter of Albert and Anna Ostberg and moved with them to Aurora, Illinois in 1911. Alvera graduated from East High School in Aurora and Aurora Business College and worked for Burlington Railroad until 1931, when she married Orville E. Knutson.
     Alvera was active in her church and was organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Aurora for 15 years until she and Orville moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1936, where she was active in Girl Scouts.
     In 1940 the Knutsons moved to Mason City, Iowa, where Alvera was again active with the Girl Scouts and the Lutheran Church. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, served on the Church Council, taught Sunday School and Adult Bible School, and attended the Women’s Church Group.
     In 1950 Alvera, Orville and their two daughters, Karen and Ruth, moved to Willmar, Minnesota, where she was active in church and PTA.
     Alvera moved with her family to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1956 and has resided there ever since. She was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years and continued her membership there until her death. At Bethlehem she served as Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and in many other church organizations. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood. In 1987 Alvera and Orville moved to Benedict Village. Alvera was a member and first president of the Tenant Council at Benedict Village. While residing at the Village, she continued to be active in volunteer work in the Village and with Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
     She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Lowell Jensen of Bismarck, North Dakota and Ruth and Jerome Lerom of Longville, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Scott Jensen, Lori Joppa, Lisa Engelstad, Steve Lerom, Paul Lerom and Jeff Lerom and eleven great grandchildren.
     Alvera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville, on December 15, 1993 and her brother, Alvin (Webb) Ostberg.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN or St. Benedict’s Center Day Care, St. Cloud, MN.
