     Lawrence J. Stewart, age 86, St. Cloud, MN died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Monday, March 26, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Community Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Lawrence Stewart was born September 10, 1920 in Holdingford, MN to Dougal and Catherine (Warzecha) Stewart. By the age of 12 his parents had died and he went to live with his sister at Fergus Falls and Campbell until enlisting in the United States Army. Lawrence served 21/2 years in the Pacific Theater during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He married Lorinda Lease on September 28, 1946 in Fergus Falls, MN. Lawrence was employed by the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center for 18 1/2 years, retiring in 1964, and was also employed by the St. Cloud Hospital for 31 1/2 years, retiring in 1984. He was also employed as a custodian by Calvary Baptist Church for 5 years, retiring in 1991. Lawrence was a member of Calvary Community Church, and St. Cloud VFW Post #428.
     Survivors include his wife, Lorinda Stewart of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Catherine I. Taylor of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Clara Benkowski of St. Cloud, MN; Hazel Steembock of Fergus Falls, MN; Mildred Wentzel of Normal, Illinois; and one granddaughter, Priscilla Finstad of New York, NY.
     He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lorraine Lenzen.
     Pallbearers will be Don Taylor, Harry Olson, Roy Holmann, Owen Peterson, LaRue Dahlquist and Mark Johnson.
     Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
