DR. THEODORE HUBERT DEDOLPH, JR., 84
St. Cloud’s Pioneering Oral Surgeon
February 21, 1923 - February 28, 2007
Dr. Ted Dedolph died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN, one week after his 84th birthday. Eldest son Ted Dedolph III, and grandson Tyson, of Fort Collins, CO had visited on his birthday and sons, Scott and Jon, also of Colorado, had just arrived at the hospital as Dad passed at 11:15 PM on Wednesday.
Funeral service will be Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service Monday at the church. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements are being made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
Dr. Ted Dedolph was born February 21, 1923 in Braham, MN to Dr. Theodore Dedolph I and Erica Erickson Dedolph. An only child, Ted grew up fishing and hunting in the “wilds” of Isanti County, MN. Ted entered the United States Navy Medical Corps in World War II. He later attended the University of Minnesota, obtaining his DDS degree, then a Masters of Science after his residency in oral surgery. At the University of Minnesota he also was a professor of Oral Surgery at the Dental School for 20 years.
Ted married Ramona J. Nelson on September 17, 1949 in Taylors Falls, MN. Ted opened St. Cloud’s first oral surgery specialty practice in 1957, and was the only oral surgeon between Minneapolis, Duluth and Fargo for many years. His younger partner, Dr. Rob Keck started Centrasota Oral and Malliofaical Surgeons, currently in practice in St. Cloud with five surgeons.
Ted believed in giving back to his family, his community, and his profession and was of the generation of doctors that still believed that medicine was “a calling” and that approaching your fellow humans from the perspective of service was the proper exercise of his “calling”.
Dr Ted is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ramona Dedolph of St. Cloud, MN; his three sons and their wives, Ted (Debbie) Dedolph of Fort Collins, CO; Scott (Sara) Dedolph of Fort Collins, CO; Jon (Dawn) Dedolph of Colorado Springs, CO; and six grandchildren: Kalle, Tyson, Shanna, Samantha, Ryan and Evan.
He was preceded in death by his 17 year old son, Jeffrey, in 1973, next to whom he’ll be buried in North Star Cemetery.
