     Donald J. Sykora, age 76, Sartell, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 in St. Cloud, MN, after a long illness.
     A memorial service will be held Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Sartell, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Private burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Don Sykora was born February 14, 1930 in Cottonwood County, MN to Joseph and Emma (Schaffer) Sykora. He was a graduate of Storden High School. Don served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Mankato State in 1957 with degrees in social work and business administration. Don met and married Bernadyne Lipetzky in 1959. He worked in Redwood County, MN as a social worker. In 1965 Don began work at Benton County as Director of Social Services, where he remained until his retirement in 1992.
     Survivors include his wife, Bernadyne of Sartell, MN; daughter and sons, Teresa (Jim) Sporleder of Spokane, WA; Jerome Sykora of Minneapolis, MN; Charles (Jeanine) Sykora of Wall, SD; Anthony (Sherri) Sykora of Sartell, MN; six grandchildren, Alex and Lara Sporleder, Elizabeth and David Sykora, and Joseph and Sam Sykora; and brother, Ken Sykora of Minneapolis, MN.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Geraldine Hvass and Rita Edwards.
     Memorials are preferred to St. Cloud Mission Office, Namibian Scholarship Fund or St. Francis Xavier School.
