Gordon S. Shern was born March 5, 1920 in Marshall County, MN to Oscar H. and Anna E. (Simonson) Shern. He was one of ten children and the family farmed for a living. Gordon lived in Viking, Mn as a child and remained there until he joined the US Army in 1940. Gordon was finally discharged and retired from all military service in 1974, proudly decorated and awarded Merits of Conduct. He married Joyce M. Peterson on June 25, 1951 in Thomasville, GA. Gordon, being the son of a farmer, was able to fix anything with duct tape and bailing wire and always enjoyed tinkering around the house and the garage. His wife, Joyce, always had to call him into the house for supper! Gordon was employed by the St. Cloud Veterans Administration Medical Center for 35 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, a life member of St. Cloud VFW Post #428, a life member of Waite Park American Legion Post #428, and a life member of NARFE.
