TERRY D. NELSON, 58
Terry D. Nelson, 58, of Spicer, Minnesota died on December 10th at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud.
Terry was born on February 25, 1948 to Elmer and Virginia (Dugas) in Springfield, Minnesota. He graduated from Springfield Public High School in 1966 and entered the U. S. Navy in October of 1966. After attending Basic Training as San Diego, California, he became a Postal Clerk and served at a variety of based and ships throughout the Pacific theater. Ships included the USS Ranger CV 61, USS Iwo Jim LPH 2, USS Proteus AS 19, and USS Paul Foster DD946. He also served at based in Guam, Hong Kong, Philippine Islands, and Hawaii. During his career in the Navy he received numerous awards and recognition for outstanding achievement in the Postal field. He obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7) before retiring in 1988. Upon returning to Minnesota, Terry began work at Crow River Industries in Brooten, Minnesota, where he worked until the company was sold in Spring of 2006. While at Crow River Industries he was selected as the “Worker of the Year”. He was a member of the American Legion Post 537 of New London, the Disabled American Veterans Association, and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Terry is survived by his mother, Virginia Nelson of Redwood Falls, MN, daughters, Christine Nelson of Boynton Beach, Florida, Dee Dee Roundtree of Jacksonville, Florida, brothers, Douglas Nelson of Wabasso, MN, and Leon Nelson (Deborah) of Bemidji, MN, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
A private remembrance service to celebrate his life will be held at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. His remain will be buried at sea.
