     Rita J. Kirby, age 81, St. Cloud, MN, died Friday, March 12, 2004 at St. Benedict’s Care Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Monday, March 15, 2004 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 2004 from 4 to 7 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     Rita Kirby was born May 3, 1922 in Delano, MN to Joseph and Gertrude (Kohnke) Miller. She married Edwin Leo Schneider in 1946. He died April 3, 1972. Rita married Chuck Kirby on September 22, 1972. Rita was the first original female radio announcer in Minnesota during World War II. She was employed by Fingerhut for 10 years and then by Stearns County Social Services for 10 years. Rita was a member of First Presbyterian Church, St. Cloud VFW Post #428 Auxiliary, Eagles Aerie #622 Auxiliary and Shrine Auxiliary.
     Survivors include her husband, Chuck Kirby of St. Cloud, MN; son, Philip (Nancy) Schneider of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Cindy (Bill) Krueger of St. Cloud, MN; step son, John Kirby of Boise, ID; step daughter Kathleen (David) Posthumus of Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren, Ben Krueger, Emily Jacobs, Corey Maselter, Joe Maselter, Christy (Greg) Steeger and Jenny (Adam) Wright and six great grandchildren, Dalton, Cassidy, Brianna, Kieran, Easton and Kyla.
     Rita was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Edwin, daughter, Sandra Marie on April 6, 2002, two brothers, and three sisters.
     Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
     She was an angel of grace during her difficult journey. She will be greatly missed.
