     Lester W. Peterson, age 86, St. Cloud, MN died Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN surrounded by his family.
     Funeral services will be Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Rev. Wayne Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. VFW Post 428 prayer service at 6:00 PM and American Legion Post 76 at 6:30 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Forrest Hill Cemetery, Milaca, MN.
     Lester Peterson was born July 3, 1920 in Milaca, Minnesota to William and Clara (Sanderson) Peterson. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and from St. Cloud State College with a teachers certificate. Lester served in the US Navy from 1944 - 1946 aboard the USS Petrof Bay. He married Velma “Vel” M. Ziemer on June 20, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca, MN. Lester owned and operated Bock Electric from 1947 to 1952. He then worked as an electrician/instructor at the St. Cloud Reformatory for 22 years retiring in 1975. Upon retirement, Lester started Peterson Electric in St. Cloud. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he served on the church council from 1983 to 1989 and was president from 1988-1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 76; Swedish Institute; Union AFSCME Council 6 and a life member of VFW Post 428, St. Cloud.
     Lester enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on cars, gardening, story telling, camping and fishing.
     Lester is survived by his wife, Vel Peterson of St. Cloud, MN; son and daughter, Lester W. (Claire) Peterson, Jr. of Virginia, MN and Sandra L. (Greg) Gohmann of St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Ellen Rasmussen of Princeton, MN and Edith Peterson of Milaca, MN; five grandchildren, Jillian (Ike) Morsch, Daniel (Ashley) Peterson, Mathew Gohmann, Jeanine Peterson, Rachel Gohmann; and one great granddaughter, Zaida Morsch.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Judge Melvin J. Peterson.
     Pallbearers will be Daniel Peterson, Mathew Gohmann, Stan Severson, John Lee, Denny Ogden, Owen Rasmussen.
