     Hugo A. Swanson, age 88, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, March 8, 2004 at St. Benedict’s Care Center, St. Cloud, MN.
     Funeral services will be Friday, March 12, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, March 11, 2004 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. St. Cloud VFW Post #428 prayer service will be at 6:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home followed by the Masonic Lodge prayer service at
    7:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN.
     Hugo Swanson was born August 31, 1915 in Carlos, MN to Knute and Violet (Pate) Swanson. Served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. Hugo married Violet Kelley on September 7, 1934 in Blackduck, MN. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Seabee in the Pacific and then North Africa. Hugo was employed by the St. Cloud Reformatory from 1958 to 1968 and then by St. Cloud State University from 1968 to 1980 as building maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Cloud VFW Post #428; North Star Masonic Lodge #23 AF & AM, St. Cloud Chapter #10 Royal Arch Masons, Nazarene Commandry #24 and Osman Shrine.
     Survivors include his wife, Violet Swanson of St. Cloud, MN; daughter and sons, Janice (Larry) Hicks of Anoka, MN; Errol (Josey) Swanson of Apple Valley, MN; Larry Swanson of St. Cloud, MN; son-in-law, Hack Long of Amarillo, TX; sister, Evelyn Muchko of Minneapolis, MN; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
     Hugo was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Shirley Long on December 14, 2000 and a sister, Vivian Borders.
