     Richard Allen Stevens, age 50, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.
     Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Richard Allen Stevens will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waite Park, MN. Rev. Ralph Zimmerman will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, July 7, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 PM at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Waite Park, MN.
     Richard Stevens was born July 10, 1955 in Rochester, MN to Merlin and Elaine (Dilworth) Stevens. Rick’s family resided in Rochester until 1963 when they moved to Hayfield, MN where his dad, Merlin, served as Hayfields Chief of Police. He was confirmed in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield and graduated from Hayfield High School in 1973. Rick married Mary I. Rosario on October 11, 1975 in Parkers Prairie, MN. They resided in St. Cloud, MN, moving to Waite Park in 1987. Rick was employed by Turbodyne/Brown Boveri from 1975 to 1982, achieving foreman in 1978. He joined the Minnesota Correctional Facility staff as a Correctional Counselor in 1982 and was promoted to Correction Officer III, Sergeant in 1994. In December 2005, Rick took a medical retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waite Park and was a Scout Leader of Boy Scout Troop 20.
     Rick’s interests revolved around his family, hunting, fishing, ATV four-wheeling and everything involving the outdoors at his hunting cabin that he and his brothers-in-law built by Pine River, MN.
     Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Mary Stevens of Waite Park, MN; children, Craig Stevens of St. Cloud, MN; and Christina Stevens of St. Cloud, MN; mother and stepfather, Elaine and Art DePuy of Rochester, MN; brothers, Jerry (Theresa) Steven of Cedar Rapids, IA; Michael (Tammy) Stevens of Hayfield, MN; Jeffrey (Cheryl) Stevens of Rochester, MN; sisters, Linda (Stan) Timmerman of New Richland, MN; Nancy (Terry) Gulbransen of Hayfield, MN; Judy (Tom) Sanvick of Winona, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his father in 1966, and twin sisters.
     Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
