Edward David Darrell Lalor

January 29, 1944 - February 22, 2025

Edward David Darrell Lalor, 81, passed away on February 22, 2025 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House. 

A service Celebrating Ed’s life will be held at First United Methodist at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church with a burial will at Acacia Cemetery in Clearwater, MN. Arrangements are with Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Ed was born on January 29, 1944, to Edwin and Viola (Byrne) Lalor in Fitchburg Township, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and in 1966 earned a bachelor in business administration and a Juris Doctorate in 1969.  In 1967 Ed married Arlene Stinebrink in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and divorced in 1971. Ed  worked as a federal prosecutor at the National Labor Relations Board from 1969 to 1980, then as an arbitrator in Labor and Employment law at the state and federal levels from 1980 to 2019. He was admitted to the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1977. He served as a municipal judge in Countryside, KS during 1979. Ed married Paula Sue Tompkins in 1978 in Mission, Kansas. Throughout his life, volunteering and social justice work in each community in which he lived was important to Ed. In St. Cloud, he was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church where he was active with Church of the Week for the homeless and community meals for those in need. He also often attended First United Methodist Church with his wife Paula and helped with the Third Saturday Community Meal and other activities. Ed was a lifetime Girl Scout member, member of the Juliet Gordon Low Society, and worked on various boards over the years such as Westport Free Health Clinic (Kansas  City, MO), Habitat for Humanity, and St. Cloud Symphony. Ed enjoyed photography, art, listening to jazz and classical music, reading, watching international films, camping in Itasca and fishing with his daughters and grandchildren. Ed enjoyed international travel, including accompanying Paula on the SCSU British Studies Program, and traveling to the Republic of Korea to visit his daughter Eileen when she lived there. Ed was proud of his Irish heritage and traced his family to Laois County, Ireland as part of the Lalor clan. In 1994 Ed and his family attended the first Lalor clan rally in over 100 years.   

Ed is survived by his wife, Paula; daughters, Eileen Ann (Matt) McElrath of St. Paul, MN, Margaret Marie (Jake Olson) Lalor of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Cormac Edward, Adelaide Lynn, and Maeve Pauline; brother, Joe (Theresa) Lalor of Verona, WI and sister, Barbara Schmitz of LaCrosse, WI.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Viola; adopted parents, Mike (Earl) and Helen Pribble; sister, Martha Hoffmaster and brothers, Dick Lalor and Gerald Lalor.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Fuller Center for Housing, Oglala Lakota College in Pine Ridge or Quiet Oaks Hospice.
