Myron G. Anderson, 94 St. Cloud May 5, 1930 - February 10, 2025 Myron G. Anderson, age 94, of St. Cloud, passed away on February 10, 2025, at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Memorial Gathering Celebrating Myron’s life will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Benson Funeral Home in St. Cloud, MN. Myron was born in Minneapolis, MN on May 5, 1930, to George and Ethel (Johnson) Anderson. He graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1948 as salutatorian. Myron went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. While attending the U of M he was active in the Radio Guild and Theatre program and rubbed elbows with many future media luminaries. He then studied at Brown University in Providence, RI, where he met the love of his life, Dorelyn Foster, and earned his PhD with a dissertation on Language and Ontology. Myron was married to Dorelyn in 1957 and they made their home in Hartford, CT, where he was a Professor of Philosophy at Trinity College. In 1965, to be closer to his aging parents, he convinced his wife to move to "God's country" in Minnesota and accepted a position in the Philosophy department at St. Cloud State University. Myron knew from the age of 16 that philosophy was his calling, and he lived that dream for many years as an active member of many vibrant academic, artistic, and intellectual communities. Until the final weeks of his life, he enjoyed meeting old friends and colleagues on Sunday mornings at Barnes & Noble for coffee and conversation. He was an avid reader and film buff, and enjoyed music and running, which he took up in 1980 in response to the mid-life crisis of turning 50. Myron retired in the early 2000’s but kept an office on campus and, until Covid closed the facilities in 2020, could still be seen running the track and trails around Halenbeck Hall. After nearly 60 years at SCSU, the recent cuts to the school’s Liberal Arts, Music and Theatre programs brought him profound sadness. Nonetheless, he remained optimistic that time will bring renewed appreciation of the Liberal Arts as an indispensable foundation of a free and democratic society. Myron is survived by his son, Mark (Joan Surma) Anderson of Minneapolis; grandson, Henry (Ericka Readel) Anderson of Minneapolis; brothers-in-law, John (Kathye) Foster of East Bridgewater, MA and David (Carolyn) Foster of Ridgefield, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Dorelyn in 2019. |
