     Joe W. Layne, age 25, St. Cloud, MN died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at his home.
     Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church, St. Stephen, MN. Rev. Robert Harren will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial with full military honors will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
     Joe Layne was born January 16, 1981 in St. Cloud, MN to Keith D. and Kristine A. (Sweiger) Layne. He was a 2000 graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School. In September 2000 Joseph entered the United States Army. He earned his Military Wings, Expert Infantry Badge and was training to become a Ranger. He was honorably discharged in March of 2003. Joseph currently was employed by the Department of Homeland Security as a security guard at the Monticello nuclear power plant. Joseph enjoyed music and played both guitar and drums. He liked to work out and was also a movie buff.
     Survivors include his parents, Keith and Kristine Layne of Aitkin, MN; brothers, Rob (Tamara) Layne of Sartell, MN; Mike Layne and girlfriend, Alex, of St. Cloud, MN; grandfather, Theodore “Ted” Layne of Sauk Rapids, MN and nieces, Raija and Caylie Layne. He is also survived by his canine companion, “Buddy”.
     He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Rhea Layne, and maternal grandparents, David and Rita Sweiger.
