    Richard A. Smith
    St. Cloud, MN
    April 28, 1954 – October 5, 2022

Richard Arthur Smith, age 68, St. Cloud, MN, died Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at The Gardens at Foley, Foley, MN.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:30 AM at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery, St. Cloud, MN at a later date.
Richard was born to Walter and Virginia (Erickson) Smith in Duluth, Minnesota on April 28, 1954. He attended school in Becker, MN. Rick and his siblings enjoyed many summer times near Duluth with grandparents Arthur and Elsa Erickson, and Rick and brother Randy occasionally helped their Grandpa with his beekeeping. He also enjoyed camping with cousins and fishing. Rick joined the Marines and completed training in San Diego, CA on July 20, 1972.
He married Janice Norton of Sauk Centre on July 3, 1979 and they shared 42 years before Janice’s passing last November. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Melanie and Christy. Richard worked a 39-year career at Frigidaire/Electrolux and served as a foreman for a while. His full retirement plans for April 30, 2019 were cut short by health issues that began in November 2018. Richard passed away at the Gardens of Foley on October 5, 2022 with family members present that day. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of The Gardens for the wonderful gift of caring human interaction you provided in his last months and for all the medical personnel who cared for Rick these last years of health challenges.
Richard is survived by his daughters Melanie (Jordan) Jefferson of Mankato, Minnesota; and Christy Smith (Khambay Kounniyom) of St. Cloud; grandchildren Anthony and Teyoni Jefferson, Braxton and Mark Toenies; sisters Linda (Richard) Rockwood of St. Michael and Lois (Marty) Woolard of Rogers; brother Randy (Tina) Smith of Spokane, WA; brothers-in-law Floyd, William, and Dan (Emily) Norton; sisters-in-law Karen Norton, Brenda Baird, Sherry Anderson, and Ruby (Ken) Toenies; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janice and many of her immediate family members; grandparents; parents; special aunt Marian, uncle Danny, and cousin Mark Holte who he enjoyed camping with.
