Gladys H. Lutgens, St. Cloud, MN died Monday, December 12, 2005 at the St. Cloud Hospital. She would have been 89 on Christmas Eve. Her memory and mobility had faded, but her love and appreciation of family and friends had remained a strong and constant comfort to her.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the St. Benedict’s Senior Community Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD sometime in March 2006.
Gladys Hilma Lutgens was born December 24, 1916 in Fargo, ND to Hans Andrew and Caroline (Bakko) Fatland, the fifth of six children. She trained and worked as a hair stylist after high school. On October 17, 1936, Gladys married Paul Lutgens and began her long and rewarding career as a wife, mother, and homemaker. The family lived in Fargo, ND until 1948. From 1948 to 1960 they resided in Bismarck, ND and then moved to Sioux Falls, SD. Gladys moved to St. Benedict’s Senior Community, St. Cloud in 2001. Throughout the years, through lean and comfortable times, she was a gracious hostess who loved entertaining and welcoming her children’s friends into the home she always made a warm and special place. Gladys was a dedicated and creative volunteer for her church, her children’s scouting and other activities, her P.E.O. chapter, and other organizations. She enjoyed playing bridge, mah jongh, and golf. Gladys also loved to dance.
Survivors include daughters and son, Karleen Abarr of Sioux Falls, SD; Mary Lynne (Einar) Bergh of Stavanger, Norway; Richard (Carol) of Linden, MI; Marsha (Paul) Shoemaker of St. Cloud, MN; 13 grandchildren;16 great grandchildren; and many, many dear and wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Paul, in 1998, one sister and four brothers.
Memorials are preferred to St. Benedict’s Center, St. Cloud, MN or First Lutheran Church Media Fund, Sioux Falls, SD. |
