Charles “Chuck” Vick was born February 18, 1935 to Richard and Mildred (Vandergrift) Vick in Sweetgrass, MT. He graduated from Havre High School in 1953. He served in the US Airforce from 1954 to 1958. On June 30, 1962 Chuck was united in marriage to Carol Chab at Warren Methodist Church, in Denver Colorado. In 1963 he completed a BA degree at the University of Denver and was awarded a National Defense Fellowship to continue his studies, completing a PhD in communicology at the University of Denver in 1967. Chuck served as a graduate professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA until 1971 when he joined the Speech Communication Department at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN. During his career, one particularly enjoyable experience was teaching in Denmark with the SCSU Denmark program. Chuck served as Department chair for three years (1987-1990) and retired from St. Cloud State University in 1996. Throughout his teaching career and into retirement Chuck often expressed a feeling of honor and gratitude derived from working with students. He was genuinely proud of the accomplishments of his many thousands of students during his 25 years at SCSU. In addition to several professional organizations, he maintained membership in Retired Educators of Minnesota, St Cloud Area Retired Educators, Stearns History Museum, and the former SCSU Husky Sports Club. Chuck and Carol together enjoyed traveling; visiting all 50 states and 26 foreign countries. In a rare experience, they were able to combine their two passions of traveling and teaching during a trip to China. Being an avid reader and writer, he published a novel, and several articles in speech journals and books. Chuck was passionate about sports and attended numerous sporting events, especially following the SCSU teams. As a couple, they also enjoyed attending many concerts and plays. Mostly, Chuck will be remembered as a devoted husband and great dad to his two sons. He was a very warm and loving person who had the rare ability to make anyone he met feel like they were old friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Vick of St. Cloud, MN; children, Kevin (Sarah Stevens) Vick of CO, and Kyle (Alison) Vick of OH; and one grandchild, Aliza Stevens Vick
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Richard, Keith, Austin, and Paul, and sister, Mildred Hansen
