    December 10, 1936 – December 5, 2019

Edward “Ed” Howell Larson, age 82, Apple Valley, MN, formerly of Sartell, MN, died Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Apple Valley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Entombment in the columbarium at St. John’s Episcopal Church will happen at a later date. Ed’s bodily remains have been donated to the University of MN Medical School for research/education to benefit the larger medical community.
Ed was born December 10, 1936 in Miles City, MT to Carroll and Dorothy P. (Howell) Larson. He was proud of the fact he grew up in Miles City, MT. Ed considered himself blessed; the core values and relationships he acquired while there would last him a lifetime. No matter where he went or what he did he never really left his hometown.
After high school Ed and some of his closest friends joined the Navy together. Ed served as a Navy Corpsman attached with the U.S. Marine Corps.; stationed in Southern California he also served in the Asian Pacific including Okinawa. In his later years he volunteered with the Marine Corps. League and The V.A. Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
Ed spent a lifetime in sales starting on Main St. in Miles City selling newspapers on the street corner. His natural gift of gab, sincerity and the love of the deal took him into multiple places, industries and markets. Local and regional markets in Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Alaska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan gave way to places like Canada, India, Russia and China. Over the years, he also shared his wisdom in the training and management of staff in the medical, optical and log home industries.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman. He nurtured his love for hunting, fishing and clay bird shooting over a lifetime. Ed also served as a volunteer firearms safety instructor for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Ed and his wife, Shirley, were long time members of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in St. Cloud, MN. Ed served on the vestry and was also instrumental in the building of a new church in 1998. Ed also mentored other parish members in assuming leadership roles in the St. John’s community.
Survived by his daughter Susan K. Larson of Apple Valley, MN; sister Mary C. Larson-Clark of Post Falls, ID; brother Frank V. Larson of Bothel, WA; sister Nancy Barnes (Bill) of Shelton, WA; numerous nieces and nephews throughout the Pacific Northwest, and lastly a lifetime accumulation of friends and acquaintances nationwide.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Shirley M. Larson (Blondeau), his parents Carroll and Dorothy P. Larson, and brother Timothy R. Larson.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred; particularly those dedicated to children and families in crisis.
