    Lynn L. Johnston, 68
    Browerville, MN
    May 15, 1950 – January 20, 2019

Lynn L. Johnston, age 68, Browerville, MN, died January 20, 2019 in Palm Desert, CA.
On January 20, the world lost a great woman who led an extraordinary life. Lynn was born on May 15, 1950 to Roland and Dorothy Schroeder, in Long Prairie, MN. She graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1968 and went on to complete her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Macalester College in 1972.
Lynn went out of her way to help others, especially those who were most in need. From protecting peers from bullies in grade school to taking in stray animals, she always gave so much, asking for nothing in return.
As a Todd County Social Worker for 40+ years, Lynn was not only devoted to her clients, but she also worked tirelessly to change the system. As a result of her efforts, Todd county and many other counties changed the way they perform custody evaluations. In addition, she was responsible for training other social workers around the state in custody resolution and helped create a mediation process for divorcing parents to come up with the best plan for their children.
Of all her work with the county, Lynn's greatest fulfillment came in the area of adoption. She excelled in this area to the degree that she was frequently contacted by attorneys for advice. She served as a board member for a state-wide organization addressing adoption issues and served as the chairperson a number of times.
Lynn also devoted endless hours as a volunteer. She taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a Girl Scout Leader, a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, and actively involved in both organizations at the regional level. She was on the board of directors for Hands of Hope, an organization that provides services to domestic violence survivors.
In addition to her own work, Lynn was also committed to supporting her husband of 45 years (Rodger, who passed away in 2017) on his many adventures and even some misadventures. One of their greatest accomplishments was starting a kids summer camp at Little Elk Ranch, where she would bale hay, mend fences, and round up over 100 horses. She never shied from hard work or getting her hands dirty.
Lynn raised and encouraged her two children (Jeremy "J" and Elizabeth) in everything they did, far into adulthood. By far Lynn's greatest joy came from her six grandchildren. She loved nothing more than to spend time playing, reading stories, watching performances, and snuggling with them.
Lynn exuded beauty and grace in the most effortless way. She brought a smile and sparkle to all who met her. Lynn loved her red wine, a good book, a nice dinner, traveling around the world, and her dog Rosie. The world is truly a better place because of Lynn and her loss will be felt by many. She leaves behind her two sisters Jill (Phil) and Ann (Pete); two children J (Molly) and Elizabeth (Peter), and six grandchildren Peyton, Cole, Eden, Liam, Ellianna, and Amelia.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 16 at Cabin Fever, 15331 183rd St., Little Falls, MN. The visitation will begin at 10 AM with a reception to following the service. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lung Cancer Alliance, Planned Parenthood, or Hands of Hope, in Lynn's honor.
