Denton Gene Harlan Jacobs, age 89, St. Cloud, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Country Manor Care Center, Sartell, MN.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spruce Grove Union Cemetery, Spruce Grove Township, MN.
Denton was born February 29, 1928 in Hendricks, MN to Otto and Inez (Somers) Jacobs. After graduating from high school Denton worked for Cloyd Jacobs at Jacobs Skelly gas station and for Jacobs Livestock in Frazee, MN hauling livestock. Denton was a member of the Frazee Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief. He married Rosemary Rader on April 13, 1951 in the Evergreen parsonage in Evergreen, MN. Denton served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a very successful salesman for World Book Encyclopedia for 25 years, retiring in 1993. Denton was a dedicated member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards, deer hunting, fishing, was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being involved their lives. Denton will be remembered for his jolly laugh, wonderful sense of humor and kind and loving personality.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Rosemary Jacobs of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Deanna (Neal) Miller of LaGrange, TX; son, David (Diane) Jacobs of St. Cloud, MN; son-in-law, Bryan (Billie) Rathke of West Bend, WI; 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Cheryl Rathke, sisters, Alta Christensen and Jane Carpenter, brother, Cloyd Jacobs, and great nephew, C.R. Jacobs.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
